Costume Commissions:

Do you have an upcoming event and a want a costume that will blow people away? Mad Scientist Designs specializes in high quality, exceptionally accurate custom costumes for all occasions. Cosplay, sci-fi, fantasy, Broadway, historical reproduction, original characters - if you can dream it, we can make it!

Quotes:

The first step is establishing a price and time quote for your costume. In order to do that, please send the following:

- Costume name and basic reference pictures (Front, back & side if possible)
- Delivery date
- Basic measurements (Bust, waist, hip, height)
- Materials requests

Have you always dreamed of that skirt in silk? Allergic to wool?

Let us know in advance so we can quote appropriately. Please note - our specialization is high quality costumes and we pride ourselves on our use of quality materials in natural fibers whenever possible. If you are on a tight budget and would like to request the use of lower quality fabrics we will consider that request, depending on the nature of the costume.

Additional services

Basic costume quotes apply only to the the fabric/clothing portions of the costume. Additional services may be available depending on the costume and timing, including wig styling, props and accessories.

Other additional services include costume research, fabric approval and rush processing. Don't see something here that you're looking for? Just ask and we'll do what we can to accommodate you. Please note - adding services may extend the delivery date of your costume.

Quotes will be sent via email within one week of request. Once the quote has been sent and accepted, a down payment of 50% is required for work to begin.

Costume Process:

Once the down payment has been received and any additional measurements have been taken, work on your costume begins! Included in your quote is the creation and fitting of a muslin mock-up. Muslin is a basic cotton fabric used to make test versions of costumes. Once your muslin is complete, it will be shipped to you for fitting. (If you are within driving distance of the shop arrangements can be made for an in-person fitting.) When you receive your muslin mock-up, it is your responsibility to have a friend or family member mark, pin and make changes. Seams can be pinned in or marked to be let out, hem lengths noted, etc. We will be available to you via phone, email and/or webcam to help facilitate this process, as it is integral to the quality of the finished product.

Once the muslin has been fitted, it will be mailed back to us and we move into final production. We will do our best to keep you updated through this process, including emails and pictures of the work as it progresses.

Final Shipping:

When your costume is complete, you will be contacted for the remainder of your payment. Costumes WILL NOT ship until payment is complete.

Please note - payment delays may affect the delivery date of your costume! Once it has shipped - enjoy! We'd love to see pictures of you in your new costume.

Terms and Conditions:

All sales are finals. Since this is custom order work, we CANNOT accept returns. This especially applies to fit issues, explaining why the muslin fitting process is so important. If there are any problems upon delivery, we will do our best to help resolve them. The best preventative measure is good communication during the commissioning process!

You are welcome to wear our costumes at conventions and in Masquerade skits. However, MAY NOT enter any Mad Scientist Designs costume in the craftsmanship portion of any competition. You must inform any judges that you did not make the costume yourself. Any abuse of this policy will be pursed and dealt with.
